Here at Medtronic, our goal is to meet patients where they are with innovative technology that’s focused on reducing the burden of living with diabetes. InPen™, the newest addition to our portfolio of products, is the first FDA cleared smart* insulin pen system that combines a reusable Bluetooth® enabled insulin pen with an intuitive mobile app to help people with diabetes take the right insulin at the right time without having to sacrifice data and decision support. In fact, InPen™ can help enhance multiple daily injection management by tracking data in real-time and offering personalized dosing recommendations. It is reusable for one year with no charging required and is now integrated with the Guardian™ Connect system.
But how does it all work? The InPen™ smart insulin pen connects via Bluetooth® to the InPen™ app (available on iOS and Android™). From here, the InPen™ app automatically logs all of the patient’s doses and keeps track of active insulin. The app can also be programmed to send missed meal dose alerts, as well as an alert for a missed long-acting insulin dose. It can also notify a patient of an unstable temperature as well as when the insulin cartridge is due to be changed.
What about mealtime dosing? InPen™ offers decision support to patients who use mealtime insulin and is approved for use with rapid-acting insulin including Humalog®, Novolog® and Fiasp®. Whether a patient is counting carbohydrates or delivering set doses, InPen™ offers several different options for meal boluses that can help meet patients where they are in their diabetes management journey. With its automated bolus calculator, dosing reminders, and the ability to see active insulin, the InPen™ smart insulin pen is a great option for patients who are perhaps not ready to begin pump therapy, those who would rather not be connected to a device or those who are wanting to take a pump vacation.
In addition, patients using the InPen™ smart insulin pen system are able to share the integrated Insights Reports with you from the InPen™ app via fax or email. The Insights Report helps provide an objective view into what is going well as well as possible areas of improvement. This report can also help support meaningful conversations with you and your patients whether in-person or via telehealth while helping to foster a patient-provider partnership that’s centered around shared decision making.

Important Safety Information: Guardian™ Connect CGM System
The Guardian™ Connect system requires a prescription and is indicated for continuous or periodic monitoring of glucose levels in the interstitial fluid under the skin, in patients (14 to 75 years of age) with diabetes mellitus. The system is intended to complement, not replace, information obtained from standard blood glucose monitoring devices, and is not recommended for people who are unwilling or unable to perform a minimum of two meter blood glucose tests per day, or for people who are unable or unwilling to maintain contact with their healthcare professional. The system requires a functioning mobile electronic device with correct settings. If the mobile device is not set up or used correctly, you may not receive sensor glucose information or alerts. For complete details of the system and its components, including warnings, contraindications, and precautions, please consult the user guide at https://www.medtronicdiabetes.com/support/download-library/user-guides and important safety information.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION FOR INPEN™ SMART INSULIN PEN:
The InPen™ requires a prescription. It is a home-use reusable pen injector for single-patient use by people with diabetes under the supervision of an adult caregiver, or by a patient age 7 and older for the self-injection of a desired dose of insulin. The pen injector is compatible with Lilly Humalog® U-100 3.0 mL cartridges, Novo Nordisk Novolog® U-100 3.0 mL cartridges, and Novo Nordisk Fiasp® U-100 3.0 mL cartridges and single-use detachable and disposable pen needles (not included). The pen injector allows the user to dial the desired dose from 0.5 to 30 units in one-half (1/2) unit increments.
The InPen™ dose calculator, a component of the InPen™ app, is indicated for the management of diabetes by people with diabetes under the supervision of an adult caregiver, or by a patient age 7 and older for calculating an insulin dose or carbohydrate intake based on user entered data.
For an insulin dose based on amount of carbohydrates, a healthcare professional must provide patient-specific target blood glucose, insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio, insulin sensitivity parameters, and duration of insulin action to be programmed into the software prior to use as it is required for set up.
For an insulin dose based on fixed/variable meal sizes, a healthcare professional must provide patient-specific fixed doses/meal sizes to be programmed into the software prior to use.
