“The use of StealthStation™ Navigation and O-arm™ intra-operative imaging, in combination with surgical instruments and powered tools, help to expand the quality of the service.”
Prof. Niemeyer from the Asklepios Paulinen Klinik in Wiesbaden/Germany is a highly experienced spine surgeon with a focus on deformity surgery. He has more than 20 years of practice in spine surgery and is using the O-arm™ and StealthStation™ navigation over the last 10 years. With his broad experience,
Prof. Niemeyer wants to share his view on-how the technology is supporting his surgeries on a daily base.
He is convinced that the use of Navigation and intra-operative imaging, in combination with surgical instruments and powered tools like the Stealth-Midas™ and the PowerEase™ drill, help to expand the quality of the service, he and his team are providing.
Being able to do more MIS surgery, less open surgery, without an increase of the radiation exposure to the surgical team, while placing the implants in a safe way, are major benefits. As the technologies are used as a central information HUB in his operating room, the complete team, surgeons, nurses, and anesthesiology always know what is happening. This leads to better communication and a more relaxed atmosphere inside the OR.
Navigation is also a highly appreciated teaching tool in his setting, allowing the younger surgeons to better understand what they are doing and providing him real time information to train his students.
At the beginning the team had doubts if the technology has a positive impact, as complex and “SIZED” on the first sight. In the end however, integration of the technology in the daily work did not need much time, thanks to the simple workflows, adapting to the way the team works, he says.
From his experience, Prof. Niemeyer wants to underline that the patient outcomes have improved, thanks to the information provided by the system, but also due to the team that appreciates to work in the spine OR.
Prof. Niemeyer is emphasizing the Stealth-Midas™ as a unique powered Solution to support his work complex spine and revision surgery and favors the overall Medtronic solution as the most complete in the market.
