Matt Walter

Chief Human Resources Officer

Matt Walter is Chief Human Resources Officer at Medtronic. He serves on the company’s Executive Committee and leads the talent, culture, and organization strategies that support a global team of 95,000+ Medtronic employees.

As CHRO, Matt provides leadership for the Global HR function’s HR business partners, centers of expertise, and shared services. This includes responsibility for talent management and acquisition; leadership development; inclusion, diversity & equity; global rewards; organization effectiveness and people data/analytics, HR digital enablement, and employee relations.

Recognizing the important role that people play in driving organizational success, Matt is passionate about delivering a rewarding employee experience, including fostering an inclusive environment where all employees can come, develop, and grow their careers.

Matt was appointed Chief Human Resources Officer in July 2023, following nine years with Medtronic in a variety of HR leadership roles. He most recently served as HR VP, Global Operations & Supply Chain, where he was responsible for HR strategies supporting roughly half of the company’s global workforce. Earlier in his tenure, he held business partner roles in the company’s Restorative Therapies Group, Coronary, Structural Heart, and Diabetes businesses, and also spent time in its Global Talent & Leadership Development Center of Expertise.

Before joining Medtronic, Matt led Talent Management at Best Buy. Prior to that, he held a number of leadership roles at Bank of America.

Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Penn. He also earned a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Colorado State University.
