During this one and a half day course Interventionists and neurologists will be present by the side of your physicians to discuss interactively all aspects of acute stroke management from stroke onset, to post-operative management.
Taped Case sessions will open the discussion on specific management of complications and promote interactive exchange with all of the Barcelona Stroke Team members.
Interventionalist and neurologist teams, willing to learn more about the Acute Ischemic Stroke treatments and considerations.
Each group will include a maximum of 6 stroke teams. To allow enough time for participant case discussion, each group consists of an interventionalist, accompanied by a neurologist colleague.

The Hospital Universitari Vall d´Hebron (HVH) represents one of the largest academic hospitals in Catalonia and has a catchment area of 800,000 people. At the center about 1400 stroke patients are treated every year. The Stroke Unit has a high level infrastructure and resources including 24 hour MRI/CTA and angio suite availability, 24/7 on-call stroke neurologist, 24/7 neurosonologist for carotid ultrasound and Transcranial Collor Coded Sonography. The Stroke center has a large experience in clinical trials for acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. Per year the department performs a total of 2,400 endovascular and interventional procedures.

In 2018 the department performed around 700 intracranial procedures including 200 aneurysms, AVM’S, fistulas and 200 Acute Ischemic Stroke events. Since 2007 the team has performed several AIS interventions yearly, which results in a cumulative experience of more than 1000 Mechanical Thrombectomies performed.

The Montpellier Stroke Center and the department of Clinical & Interventional Neuroradiology are located in the South of France close to the Mediterranean Sea. The center services the 2.5 million inhabitants of the city.
In 2018 the department performed a total of about 2000 intracranial procedures including 400 intracranial embolization of aneurysms and 450 Acute Ischemic Stroke events.

Any Ischemic Stroke team (Stroke physicians and Interventionalists) willing to learn more about the Acute Ischemic Stroke unit organization.
The participating HCP is working in a stroke center that is fully active and is perfoming Mechanical Thrombectomy procedures on a regular basis.
Each group will include a maximum of 12 participants to allow all participants to be actively involved in the discussions.
This is a one day course. Arrival is scheduled for the evening before and departure is planned late afternoon on the day of the course.
The Bern Stroke Center and the department of Diagnostic & Interventional Neuroradiology are located in the capital of Switzerland. The center services the 0.13 million inhabitants of the city.
Inselspital Bern has the largest stroke unit in Switzerland, with 12 beds available in the unit since 2015. Overall, about 1,500 patients were treated with acute problems of cerebral vessel and Prof. Gralla and his team performed more than 100 Mechanical Thrombectomies. The Bern Stroke Center is one of the two European centers that publish their Stroke guidelines for Medical Professionals.
Aneurysm treatment options and radial access workshop

This workshop will introduce the different therapeutic treatment options for basic to more complex aneurysms. Several techniques as coiling and flow diversion will be covered theoretically and practically during hands-on sessions and live cases. Radial access will also be discussed in theory and observed in practice (depending on live cases), and navigation of the aortic arch will be practised on a hands-on flow model.
Physicians who have performed a few or intend to deploy Pipeline devices as primary operators. Physicians with interest in Radial access.
Each group will include a maximum of 6 participants to allow enough time for hands-on training.
This is a 2 day course. Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon of the day before for a welcome dinner and introductions. The following two days starting at 8:00h, will be dedicated to lectures, discussions, live cases and in-vitro hands-on session on flow model. Departure is planned for the early afternoon of the second day.

INRs and 2 Fellows performing around 300 neuro interventions per year. Birmingham is one of the high-volume centres in West Europe that has developed significant experience in the treatment of aneurysms using flow diverters. Dr Saleh Lamin and Queen Elizabeth Hospital have been participating in the ”PVantage study”, and they are also one of the centres that have more experience with the PED SHIELD Technology across West Europe.

Advanced Arterio-Venous Malformations and Stroke Treatment Fusion - Workshop
PROF. RENE CHAPOT
Alfried Krupp Hospital, Essen, Germany
The program is intended to provide physicians with a broad understanding of advanced techniques for treating Arterial-Venous Malformations and Thrombectomy. During the session, participants will review the embolisation techniques with the use of Onyx™ liquid embolic agent and coils and Thrombectomy techniques, including dual-stent retrieval.
Physicians with a minimum experience of 5 years, including a minimum of 10 AVMs as primary operator per year. They also should be currently in a centre that provides thrombectomy service.
Each group will include a maximum of 6 participants.

Through the years, Prof. Chapot and his team have written many publications and participated in trials due to their expertise in managing these lesions.

Physicians who have performed a minimum of 2-3 Pipeline™ embolisation device cases as primary operator
Each group will include a maximum of 6 participants to allow enough training time during hands-on session.
This is a 2-day course. Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon the day before with dinner and introductions. The first day of the course starts at 8:00 will be dedicated to lectures, discussions, and in-vitro and in-vivo hands-on session using flow model and at the animal lab.
On the last day participants will be exposed to different live cases and lectures. Departure is planned in the early afternoon
The Christian Doppler Clinic is part of the University Hospital Salzburg. The Christian Doppler Clinic’s medical focus is on the care of patients with neurological, neurosurgical and psychiatric disorders. Through close interdisciplinary cooperation, also with the nearby specialist departments of the state hospital, the patients in the entirety of their bio-socio-psychological illness can be recorded and treated holistically. Prof. Monika Killer- Oberpfalzer is a neurosurgeon specialising in neuro-interventional therapy. Since 2011 she is Head of the Research Institute of Neurointervention at the Department of Neurology. In 2016 she was appointed as a Professor of Clinical Neurosciences at Paracelsus Medical University. She is a peer reviewer for multiple international journals such as Stroke, AJNR, JNIS and Neuroradiology and is part of the Editorial Review Board of Neurosurgery.

Department of Neuroradiology, Hôpital Dupuytren, Limoges, France
The program is intended to provide physicians with a broad understanding of advanced techniques for the treatment of Brain Aneurysms and Arterial-Venous Malformations. During the session, participants will review the embolisation techniques with the use of Onyx™ liquid embolic agent and coils and will discuss procedures of balloon remodelling, stenting and flow diversion. Radial access will also be discussed in theory and observed in practice (depending on live cases), and navigation of the aortic arch will be practised on a hands-on flow model.
Physicians with a minimum experience of 4 years in neurovascular procedures as the primary operator, including 5-10 AVMs/yr and 25-30/yr aneurysm.
Each group will include a maximum of 6 participants.
This is a three days course. Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon of the day before, and will start with a dinner and introductions. The following three days starting at 8:00, will be dedicated to lectures, discussions, live cases and in-vitro hands-on session on the flow model. Departure is planned for early afternoon of the third day.
Prof. Charbel Mounayer and his team have published many papers in some of the most relevant NV journals. Due to this, Prof. Mounayer and his team hold a tremendous reputation in the community. He became an expert in the treatment of AVMs due to the high volume of AVMs treated and also due to his novel way of treating them, using a unique and successful venous approach. In the use of PED he is one of the most expert KOL managing these devices for many years, and also he has a high number of publications and studies done in regard to this topic.
Limoges is a city and commune, the capital of the Haute-Vienne department and the administrative capital of the Limousin in west-central France. Limoges is known for its medieval and Reinassance enamels on copper, for its 19th century porcelain and for its oak barrels which are used for Cognac and Bordeaux production.
Because the Limousin region has had a long history of breeding, the leather industry also settled in and around Limoges along the banks of the Vienne – the river providing the necessary water and power. Factories in Limoges and St Junien still produce luxury leather shoes, gloves, and bags.

Hospital La Pitié Salpêtrière is one of the high-volume centres in West Europe that has developed significant experience in the treatment of aneurysms using flow-diverters. Dr Nader Sourour has a broad experience with Pipeline and also hosting workshops and proctoring Pipeline cases across West Europe.

Dr Nicola Limbucci has a broad experience with Pipeline and has done extensive research in the neurointervention field.
